FO Platform End Passenger Cars

 

• Update, 30-7-10 - The FO Coaches will be limited to a run of 750 sets only plus Add ons

The FO’s are arguably the most versatile coaches on the NSWGR. There were numerous styles and roof shapes for these coaches and they were hauled behind most types of steam locos generally available in model form and a large percentage of early diesels. For a complete history refer to Coaching Stock of the NSWGR volume 2. ( Still in print from Eveleigh Press ). We are doing the Mansard roof versions of the FO. All cars will have full interior detail and will be lighted. The lights will be individually controlled by switches on the underside of each coach.

A two tiered advance order list has been established. The initial price of a six car set FO’s will be $595.00. This price can be held by a deposit of $100.00 and will hold for orders fully paid by 31st January, 2011. This has been extended from the original date of August, 2010.

Additional two car sets of FO’s will initially be $200.00 rising to $220.00. A premium of $20 will apply to the price of FO two car sets ordered separately to six car sets. This premium does not apply to two car sets containing CCA cars.

American Suburban Cars.

First test shots of the American Suburban Cars commonly known as the FO’s.

The CCA: Six CCA cars were built for use on short branch lines where they were incorporated into mixed trains to provide passenger and guards accommodation. Effectively they were a complete train in one coach comprising first and second class compartments with smoking and non smoking and a guards compartment.

The cars were used on Yass Tramway, Camden, Kurrajong and Morpeth branches. When no longer required for these services they were used to build up other trains.

HFO: This coach is an Open Ended HFO. Outwardly identical to the FO with the last two compartments blocked off for the use of the guard.

These photos are of first engineering samples. There are still modifications to be made. The truss rods will be improved and the handrails at the ends of the cars will now be micro welded steel rod instead of the plastic mouldings shown on the models.
